4MINUTE PROFILE


4Minute is South Korea girl group under Cube Entertainment. The same label with Beast and A Pink. 4Minute members consisting of leader Jihyun, Gayoon, Jiyoon, Hyuna, and maknae Sohyun. In May 2009, Cube Entertainment announced the creation of 4Minute. CUBE Entertainment defined the meaning of the name "4Minute" stating that they "...will give off each of their charms while performing for that 4Minute long performance on the stage, captivating the hearts of fans". 4Minute official fan club name is “4Nia”, a combination of “4Minute” and “mania”.


Hyuna and Jihyun were the first members announced to be in the 5 member group. Initially, 4Minute was known as " Hyuna's Group", because Hyuna is a former member of Wonder Girls who would re-debut with 4Minute. On June 12nd, 2009 CUBE Entertainment released concept 4minute's photo for promoting the "Candy Funky Style". 4minute was criticized by Netizens who declared 4minute was similar to 2NE1 and After School. CUBE Entertainment assured netizens that 4minute's Candy Funky Style is different from After School, who does vivid colours and 2NE1 with the Hip Hop style. Because their sensation, 4minute became the first searched phrase on Daum, and their popularity increased before their debut.


On June 18, 2009 4Minute debuted with their single debut "Hot Issue" on Mnet M! Countdown. At the end of August, 4Minute released their first mini album titled "For Muzik" and Muzik become their second single that released on September 3rd, 2009. On September 5th, 2009 their promotion "Muzik" at Music Bank. Sony Korea chose 4minute's song "MUZIK" as their MP3 Player theme, which was played in the CM. Sequentially, "ShoeMarker", a shoe company, collaborated with 4minute who endorsed their product while 4minute was asked to represent the relaunch of Pucca, a South Korean character brand. "Hot Issue" continued to have immense popularity digitally.


On 27 August, KBS banned the playing of "Won't Give You" for what they considered to be overly sexual lyrical content. The lyrics in question, in the style of a first-person narrative, express an unwillingness on the part of the subject to "give" herself or her heart to her partner. Cube Entertainment responded to the ban by stating that the song was intended to be "about the pure feelings of a girl to a guy" and that they were very disappointed by the decision. On November 30, 2009 it was announced that Hyun A and Ji Yoon would make their solo debut's. On January 4th, 2010 Hyun A made her debut with the digital single "Change". The music video was deemed inappropriate for minors and given a 19+ rating because of the dancing Hyun A does in the video. It was re-edited by CUBE Entertainment, this was given a 15+ rating nevertheless.


In 2010, CUBE Entertainment announced their plans to expand 4minute into other Asian countries due to immense popularity. Cube Entertainment also announced that Universal Music Group would be assisting 4Minute with an international launch of their album. On May 5th, 2010 4Minute released their debut Japanese single "MUZIK"  under Far Eastern Tribe Records. On May 19, 2010 4minute released a new mini-album entitled HuH (Hit Your Heart) with their first single "HuH". On July 5, 2010 they released a new music video for "I My Me Mine" their second single from "Hit Your Heart" . On July 28th, their released "I My Me Mine" as their next Japanese single. In September, Far Eastern Tribe Records announced a third Japanese single and their first double single, entitled "First/Dreams Come True". The single was released on October 27, 2010. On December 15th, 2010 their first Japanese album, DIAMOND was released.


On March 9th, 2011, their fourth Japanese single "WHY" was released and on March 29th they released their first Korean digital mini-album Heart to Heart. On April 5th, 2011 their first Korean album "4Minutes Left" was released along with the highly anticipated video for their Shadow Title Track "Mirror Mirror". On September 7th, 2011 their fifth Japanese single "HEART TO HEART" was released with the tittle track being a Japanese version of the Korean of the same tittle. On December 7th, 2011 their sixth Japanese single "READY GO" was released, it was their first single to feature an original Japanese song. In April 9, 2012, 4Minute released their third Korean mini-album, Volume Up. On May 20th, 2012 4Minute promotion Volume Up on SBS Inkigayo.

Cube Entertainment responded to the ban by stating that the song was intended to be "about the pure feelings of a girl to a guy" and that they were very disappointed by the decision. On November 30, 2009 it was announced that Hyun A and Ji Yoon would make their solo debut's. On January 4th, 2010 Hyun A made her debut with the digital single "Change". The music video was deemed inappropriate for minors and given a 19+ rating because of the dancing Hyun A does in the video. It was re-edited by CUBE Entertainment, this was given a 15+ rating nevertheless.


In 2010, CUBE Entertainment announced their plans to expand 4minute into other Asian countries due to immense popularity. Cube Entertainment also announced that Universal Music Group would be assisting 4Minute with an international launch of their album. On May 5th, 2010 4Minute released their debut Japanese single "MUZIK"  under Far Eastern Tribe Records. On May 19, 2010 4minute released a new mini-album entitled HuH (Hit Your Heart) with their first single "HuH". On July 5, 2010 they released a new music video for "I My Me Mine" their second single from "Hit Your Heart" . On July 28th, their released "I My Me Mine" as their next Japanese single. In September, Far Eastern Tribe Records announced a third Japanese single and their first double single, entitled "First/Dreams Come True". The single was released on October 27, 2010. On December 15th, 2010 their first Japanese album, DIAMOND was released.


On March 9th, 2011, their fourth Japanese single "WHY" was released and on March 29th they released their first Korean digital mini-album Heart to Heart. On April 5th, 2011 their first Korean album "4Minutes Left" was released along with the highly anticipated video for their Shadow Title Track "Mirror Mirror". On September 7th, 2011 their fifth Japanese single "HEART TO HEART" was released with the tittle track being a Japanese version of the Korean of the same tittle. On December 7th, 2011 their sixth Japanese single "READY GO" was released, it was their first single to feature an original Japanese song. In April 9, 2012, 4Minute released their third Korean mini-album, Volume Up. On May 20th, 2012 4Minute promotion Volume Up on SBS Inkigayo.
