Kim Jong Hyun (김종현) or people generally known as Jonghyun (종현) is member of South Korea boyband SHINee. Jonghyun is the shortest member in SHINee. Jonghyun was born in Seoul, South Korea on April 8th, 1990. Before joined with SM Entertainment, Jonghyun has been active in music since he was in junior high school. He was in a band and participated in many festival in his region. In his band, his position was not as a vocalist, but as a bassist. Jonghyun joined at SM Entertainment after he won auditioned at the 2005 S.M. Casting System. In 2008, Jonghyun put into group SHINee. On May 25, 2008 Jonghyun with his band SHINee debuted with their single debut 'Replay' on SBS Inkigayo. Before debuted with SHINee, he sang a duet with Zhang Liyin in the song “Wrongly Given Love” for her Chinese album.

In November 2010, Jonghyun with his label mate Super Junior Kyuhyun, TRAX Jay, and Korean singer Jino had formed a project group named SM The Ballad under their label SM Entertainment. The group focuses more on ballad rather than pop and R&B themes. On November 28, 2010 the group debuted stage on SBS Inkigayo with their single debut "Miss You". They also promoted another single from the album, "Hot Times". In addition to being the lead vocal in SHINee, Jonghyun also has written lyrics for several SHINee's songs such as Juliette at the second mini-album, Romeo, Obsession, part of the "Up & Down" on the studio album Lucifer-2, Honesty and Alarm Clock in the 4th mini album Sherlock. The song 'Honesty' is written to give thanks to their fans who have stayed by their side with unchanging love until now. The other song, ‘Alarm Clock’ which is also co-written with fellow member Minho, is about wishing to wake up from a nightmare of past break-up.

On October 12, 2010 in Jakarta, Indonesia at the Korea-Indonesia Sharing Friendship Concert Jonghyun sustained ligament injuries to his left ankle after he was mobbed by excited fans following Shinee's performance. However, SME announced that the injury suffered is not too severe Jonghyun she can still continue the activities SHINee to promote their single "Hello". Jonghyun only receive a small cast to protect his ankle. Injuries Jonghyun was prolonged, all this makes Jonghyun can not dance with the other SHINee members for several months. Previously his ankle injury was thought to be minor but after further examination it was deemed to require surgery. On January 17, 2011, Jonghyun received surgery to his left ankle at a hospital in Seoul.

On October 20, 2010, Jonghyun and korean actress Shin Se Kyung were spotted dating by a local news outlet. On October 26th, their agencies confirmed the relationship but in June 2011, after nine months of dating, Jonghyun and Shin Se Kyung broke up, the reason being their busy schedules.

Jonghyun and Onew previously been infected with swine flu. On the night of November 2nd, Jonghyun had symptoms of a cold so he visited the hospital to get a check up. For precautionary measures he was given Tamiflu, but on November 3rd, he was declared positive with swine flu. After Jonghyun reportedly recovering from swine flu, Onew then reportedly infected with swine flu also.

Many people who say if Jonghyun was looking similar with Super Junior Donghae and f(x) Amber. So the three of them sometimes take photos together and call themselves as the “dinosaur family”.
